Privacy Policy — SplitIt

1. Information we collect

Account data: name, email, and/or phone when you register (Google, email, or OTP).
Expense data: groups, expenses, splits, settlements, and notes you create.
Technical data: app version, device type, and diagnostic logs for reliability.
Push token: Firebase Cloud Messaging token for notifications you allow.

2. App permissions

SMS (READ_SMS only): Optional. After you accept an in-app disclosure on the Groups screen, the app reads recent bank/UPI debit SMS on your device to suggest expense details. SMS content is processed locally and is not uploaded. We do not use RECEIVE_SMS or call log permissions.

Internet: sync with our API at splitit.agevole.in.
Notifications: invites, approvals, and expense activity (disable in-app).
Camera: optional QR scanning where supported.

3. How we use your data

Authenticate you and deliver core expense-splitting features.
Calculate balances, settlements, and group activity.
Send service notifications you have not disabled.
Maintain security and improve app quality.

4. Data sharing

We do not sell personal data. Limited sharing occurs with:

Service providers (hosting, Firebase push) to operate SplitIt.
Group members — expense data within groups you join.
Legal obligations when required by applicable law.

5. Security & retention

Sensitive fields are encrypted at rest. We retain data while your account is active and as needed for legal or security purposes. Request deletion via our Account Deletion page.

6. Your rights & choices

Update profile information in the app.
Revoke SMS permission in Android settings at any time.
Disable push notifications in-app or on your device.

7. Children's privacy

SplitIt is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.
